The resort has a “campus-like” setting, which includes 1,000 feet of frontage on Portage Lake. Our deep water marina, includes shorepower and showers, and is capable of handling yachts to 100 feet. Under a succession of owners over the past 100 years, the property has been constantly improved upon or renovated. However, from 1988 until 1993, Portage Point Inn fell on hard times, and was closed. Current owners happened upon it in 1991 boarded up and in severe disrepair, and finalized their purchase in 1993. Since then, constant renovations and development have this beautiful place fully operable again. Most of the resort was winterized in 1996 and is now open year round. Along with the very busy summer season that guests have enjoyed for generations...now the splendor of fall color, renewal of spring and the quiet peacefulness of the winter are available for our guests enjoyment.

In 1903, Portage Point Inn
opened its doors to families looking for a vacation experience that would
blend the unique charms of Northern Michigan with recreational pursuits. The
lakes, beaches and dunes surrounding the resort are as captivating today as they
were back in the early 1900’s when steamships arrived from Chicago. Since then,
generations of families have come to Portage Point Inn to enjoy that special
time called “Vacation”.
Portage
Point Inn is positioned on a wooded peninsula with miles of sandy Lake
Michigan dunes and beaches to the West…and the clear, protected waters of
Portage Lake to the East. The two lakes are connected by a wide navigable
channel, located just 3/8 mile South of the resort.
